Around the World
Excerpts from Papa's Dairy from 1972-2006
[additional writings by Juana/Walden to our best recollection]
I would have easily titled this as "My Father's Incredible Travel Around the World"
Papa's travel around the world, can be traced back to his very first flight when he flew off Xiamen for the Philippines on June 21, 1948. Since then, I should say, his travels can be beyond the ordinary frequent flyer. For a greater part of his time, travelling became his life.
Together with William, perhaps, we have the best opportunity of traveling with Papa (and Mama). Many of our travels (1965-1970) were mostly work related. Riding in his truck (full of merchandise for sell), travelling all over Mindanao during school vacations. It must have been in those times, that we (William and myself) grew to easily adapt to native customs (William does adapt better than I do for sure.) Eating with bare hands, sleeping in our truck floor with cartons and newspapers. bathing in murky river on the road, using leaves for toilet papers, or peeing in the forest, carrying merchandise, and even selling merchandise.
I have always thought that, aside from Mama, I would be the best person that knew Papa best, yet -- NO. As I speak to Mama every night, since Papa's passing), I still find something every so often that I did not know about and it amazes me as it will amaze you.
In Papa's Book Shelf, he have a stack of printed books, compilations of his writings about his travels from 1972 to 2006. In his computer, he have gigabytes of data pertaining to travels, including information such as travel tickets, travel calendar, travel guide, travel agent, pictures, videos, audio recordings. I am continually astonished at how discipline Papa can be in keeping track of his travel diaries, trip after trip, day after day. Papa left us an extravagant wealth of his loving and fun memories, as was laughter and challenges of in detailed timelines of his life.
We thank Papa for his never ending diligence work for us the receive. I know Papa's intentions (even without him telling us), was to share his life story with his children, his grandchildren and to his grandchildren's children. God Bless You, Papa.
Follows next are his recorded trips around the world, many if not all, were with Mama's faithful and devoted supports.
